Welcome to our university! On behalf of the Students’ Union, I am writing this email to express our excitement for your coming and offer some practical suggestions for your campus life here.

Most important is that: Do not forget to enroll with your student cards on the first day to university, and keep your cards at hand in case of checking when entering specific constructions. Furthermore, our sports field is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., so please adjust your exercise time accordingly and do not work out too late.

大作文：悲喜之间

There are two men, as is depicted in this meaningful cartoon, making different responses to the very same incident happening on the road where a bottle of water tips down on the ground, and part of the water in it spills out. One of them reacts to it with depressing disappointment on his face while another displays an upbeat smile and hurries to help his friend up.

The caricature has presented two different attitudes towards what happens in our life: Optimism and Pessimism. The author intends to tell us a principle that we are supposed to hold an optimistic stand when the unhappiness occurs. Generally, an optimist commonly leads a more satisfying life than a pessimist who always keeps the harmful matter in his mind, which will lower one’s happiness index.

For my part, we surely should take an optimistic attitude toward many things. Nonetheless, what we need to concern is that over-optimism also could destroy our phlegm incidental to the pessimism, which is necessary for us as well. Every citizen ought to put both of them together and see the two sides of a coin. And only with this faith held in mind can we be primed to embrace a progressive, prosperous and promising outlook.

考研高频单词讲解-1

本期写一篇考研高频单词的讲解，主要是从词根词缀出发写一点个人背单词的技巧和心得，或者是一些小的辨析之类的。词频的来源是这里。授人鱼不如授人以渔，先推荐两个个我常用的词根查询网站（全英+科学上网）： Etymonline Wiktionary 前期直接看可能难度较大，可以参考 http://www.dicts.cn/ 这个网站，逐渐熟悉后再慢慢适应英文版。话不多说，直接开始吧~~ 1. industrial industry的形容词，注意industry有勤奋的意思，而industrial没有【勤奋的】的意思，只有【工业的】的意思。Industry由 indu + stry组成，indu 由indo结尾变化而来（元音变化很常见，可以理解为a = e = i = o =u），意为 in或者within ， stry = stru = structure。综合起来就是在里面建造=》工业。 2. involve in（≈indo）+volve（旋转，拟声词，模仿旋转的声音） = 卷入，涉及。Volvo沃尔沃也是源自同一个词根，元音变化又用上啦，e 变成了 o。volve这个词根的同源词也很多，需要单开一节讲解。 3. moral 这个单词从词源比较难记，因为无法得出有效的记忆规律。所以多个同源单词一起记忆比较方便。 Demoralize 这个单词翻译考过，de = off 去掉，morale（士气），懂点词根很容易就能知道他的意思啦。比如LOL中被Ace（团灭）了就非常地demoralizing哈哈。如果每人拿到一个人头就叫做team ace，虽然通常都是adc（attack damage carry）, ap(ability power carry)拿人头。说到ace这个单词也很有趣，ace是扑克（poker）中最大的。有一种说法是，1789年法国大革命之后，平民获得了更多权力，于是最底层ace就变成最大的啦。如果各位有兴趣还可以学习扑克中的历史+英语， Jack , Queen , King 对应了不同的人物，其中黑桃q（queen of spades，spade是铲子）原型是雅典娜（Athena），还有很多有意思的人物，这里就不展开啦，有兴趣可以自己查阅以上超链接。 Morale 加e变名词，有道德的状态（concerning mor...

考研高频单词讲解-2

书接上回。上次讲了十个单词，其中包含了许多非常重要的词根，越往下讲词根的重复率会越大，所以词根方面的内容会变少，我尽量在其他的地方多补充点内容。 11.label 动词和名词的意思都有，动词就是标签化，比如label him a loser。此处的label用作贬义，也可以和中文一样当成中性词使用。例句： labeled the switches so as not to confuse them 这里的label可以替换为categorize或者tag。 12.detail De ‘off’ + tail ‘cut’ 意为切下来的东西 => 细节。 Tailor（裁缝）也是tail的衍生词，字面意思（literally）为’cutter’。 tailor还有作为动词的意思，也很常见，意为量身定做（裁缝干的事）。比如 This patch is tailored for Windows users. 这个补丁是为Windows用户定制的。 tailor换成cuntomize亦可。 13.event e’out，ex的变体（variant）’+ vent ’ come’ 出来的东西，通常指大事件。比如竞技体育的大型比赛就是一次event（Ti，s10，major…）这里的vent也是一个重要词根，作为来的意思非常多见，convene，convention，adventure，circumvent’绕过’（circum是圆的词根，circumcise（cise = cide，切）可以帮助大家很好的记忆这个词根，意思请大家自行查阅， warning : NSFW⚠）这里再分享一句个人很喜欢的亚历山大的名言我来，我见，我征服。 I came, I saw, I conquered. 词缀讲解后缀篇之“ous”

在上一期已经简单介绍了 ‘ive’ 这个后缀，后续再考虑补充该后缀的其他性质。本期主要讲解后缀 ‘ous’，希望能帮助到大家~~ 先举几个以ous结尾的单词： mysterious curious felicitous (幸福的) homogeneous （考过。同质，相似的，数学中意为齐次，homogenous equations“齐次方程”）很多同学认为以 ‘ous’ 结尾的单词是形容词，所以ous是形容词后缀。但是知道ous是形容词后缀几乎对于我们背单词没有任何帮助，因为还有大把其他后缀（‘ic’, ‘ical’, ‘ish’）同样也是表形容词，所以仅仅知道是形容词这一点信息量太小，不仅对于记忆（memorize）单词没有帮助，反而加大背诵的负担。故如何区别不同后缀是提高的关键。重点来了，ous有以下几个用法：表数量多、富足（richly possessing）表性质（of the nature of）表相似（like）第一个性质表数量多估计很多同学没有意识到，主要讲一下这个含义，因为最常见，而且可以用来解释很多单词的意思。 Mysterious 先来个简单的，神秘的。Mystery + ous，很多神秘的事 => 神秘的。 Hilarious Hilarity“高兴，欢乐” + ous。很多欢乐 => 快乐的，通常指非常好笑，比happy更甚。Hilary（希拉里）作为人民也是此意。 Luciferous 难度稍大，意为带来光的，该单词由三部分组成 luc “光” + fer “带来” + ous “多”。 luc = lux 是光 “light ”的词根。其中 x = eks（讲过），e和u合并为u（元音变化无所谓），k = c（发音相同），s辅音省略。举个例子帮助同学们记忆lux：玩过英雄联盟的肯定知道里面有个女英雄叫拉克丝，那么她的英文名就叫做 Lux ，就是光的意思啦。她的所有技能（光芒四射、光明束縛……）都与光有关，应该有画面了吧？如果女同学没玩过英雄联盟的也有一个记忆的方法，去逛一下超市肯定能找到力士（lux，读音相似）洗发水，没见过的同学去京东买一瓶 ^_^。洗发水的目的当然是让头发更有光泽啦，所以取名力士lux。 fer作为词根意为带来（carry）...

词根“volv”相关单词讲解

本期是具体解析词根的第一篇，先从volv讲起，因为这是我在文章中第一个提到的词根。希望大家能记住能够，然后更方便地背单词。本期主要讲解volv相关单词，volv(Latin)作为词根是拟声词，模仿旋转的声音，是从原始印欧语’ wel ’演化而来，不需要掌握wel，有个印象就行。 volv的作为词根以为“roll，turn around”，和旋转分不开，所以他的衍生词也都与旋转有关。注意vert（divert，convert）这个词根表示’turn’（转一次），而不是’turn around’（旋转）。本期大多单词为冷门低频词，虽说冷门，但是有很多是专业术语，相关专业同学应该比较了解。不过对于大多数人来说能有个印象就行，能记忆多少是多少，当作是词根记忆联想即可。 1. Voluble 健谈的，同义词：talkative, loquacious。由volv + able组成，字面义为能转的，可能是指说话人转动的舌头，或者是说话人滔滔不绝的状态。名词：Volubility。 2. Volume 意为“卷”，一开始是指书籍，第一卷，第二卷等。因为在书籍（有封面，页）出现之前，东西方人都用卷轴（scroll）写书或者作画（如图）。在书籍出现之后，之前volume的意思也保留了下来，虽然此时“卷”的意思已经不再明显。后来，volume的意思得到了拓展，还能指卷成的物体的体积，大小。再衍生出“音量”的意思，即为声音的大小。 voluminous，volume + ous（体积肥大的，卷帙浩繁的），都是讲过的意思，应该不难理解。 3. Volutation 意思和roll一样，由volutate（Latin） + ion合成。旋转的名词，比较冷门的一个词，不需要记忆。 4. Volute 意为，漩涡状的（adj.），涡形（n.）。注意并非是 Vol + ate组成的动词，而是由voluta（Latin）直接演变而来。 Volution：涡旋（n.），旋转。同样都是冷门词，应用场景较少。 5. Valve 阀门，不是value ！该词也和转有关，v社就是这个单词，搭配steam，很有感觉。 Valvo（沃尔沃）比喻轮子的转动。 6. Vault 保险柜，也和转有关（如图）。 7. Advolution 向某物发展，ad ‘toward’ + volv。向某个方向滚。 8....

考研高频单词讲解-4

本文讲考研高频单词的第四期，目前还不打算讲介词和后缀（稍难），先以常见词根为主，本期会加上英英翻译，难度稍稍加大，希望大家能够适应。 31. interpret 词根组成（inter + pret），其中inter很简单，是between之意。但是pret词根不好理解，它来自词根 per- 的第五个意思（to sell）！per-的意思相当之多，需要另开贴慢慢说。再根据 wiktionary 的来源，pret来自于拉丁语 pretium （price），也很好理解，字母经过简单的元音、辅音变化就从拉丁语到了英语。结合两个意思，互相（inter）交换价格（price），所以需要理解，解释（explain，expound）。在拉丁语中，interpres本身就是掮客，中间商（broker）的意思，这就太明显啦，掮客起到的就是解释，沟通双方的作用，进一步从侧面表明了该单词的意思。英英释义： 1.explain the meaning of (information, words, or actions). 2.translate orally or into sign language the words of a person speaking a different language. （这里联想记忆一下，通常懂两国语言的中间商更好赚差价 ∩_∩）然后说一下 broker 这个词，词源不明，但是把他拆分成 broke + er，打破人，因为掮客打破了顾客和上游供货商的关系，一下就记住了吧’◡’ 32. pattern 最好不要简单翻译为：图案。看一下英英：名词：a repeated decorative design. 动词：decorate with a recurring design. 两个都强调了重复性（recur = re + occur，计算机中称为递归）而不是单纯的图案，比如这种就属于pattern。另：不要和pardon搞混了，读音有点类似。 33. plate 这个单词与flat很近，根据格林定律（不是考研数学的格林公式！），有f=p，所以这两单词都有"平"在里面，所以盘子，车牌都是这个单词，显然都是平的。此外，它还表示板甲，中世纪的骑士穿的就是这种 plate armor （armor：...
