I’m a librarian at our university. On behalf of all faculty of our library, I am writing the notice to you provide some necessary information about it.

First of all, our opening hours are from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. every day, except from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, so please arrange your time properly. Secondly, there are some rules you need to follow. Heels and slippers are not allowed here due to their distraction caused to other readers. Last but not least, if you intend to borrow several books, please contact the receptionist, and he will process the formalities for you.

Our library owns more than 100,000 books, so I am sure you will enjoy your time here. Inquiries are welcomed and feel free to make contact with us if you need any assistance.

大作文：榜样的力量

What a sarcastic scene! On the left picture, a casual father leans back on the chair and dictate his son to study carefully and hard. The boy is clearly not happy with his father’s “dictatorship.” On the right, however, another father says nothing and does his work earnestly. Likewise, his son emulates him and is reading without distraction.

The meaning of the cartoon is evident as the caption below indicates: Be a model, not a commander. On the one hand, a good model is our guide to the world because his child would emulate everything he has done and behaviorally approach his parents without consciousness. On the other hand, though, a bad one is so devastating that children may sink into an endless abyss teeming with misdeeds that develop from their parents.

Every parent should be cautious about the way they treat their children because they will be exactly the way they are treated. I hope every parent will be a good model and make progress with children together.

词根“duct”相关单词讲解

本期讲解词根 duct ，Duct在这篇博文中提到过，意为领导、引导（‘to lead’)，duct的原始词根为deuk（结尾辅音变化，不影响单词意思），本文的以下单词皆与该意思有关，不需要全部记忆，根据个人精力进行学习。 1. Duke 公爵。duke由deuk演化而来，两个词长得差不多，读音也差不多。公爵是领导一个地区的人，一个领导者。 Duchess，公爵夫人。 Duchy，duke的东西 => 公国。 Archduke，arch（大）+ duke，奥地利大公，位置比公爵高，低于国王。 Grand duke，也是大公，欧洲大陆国家常见，如：卢森堡大公，托斯卡纳大公。 Ducat，达克特，一种货币。字面意为：公爵的货币。 Ducal，duc + al，公爵的再补充一下欧洲贵族的英语，爵位按排序递减：侯爵，Marquis。Marq = mark，标记。标记在这里象征着领地的边界被mark了，侯爵负责管理标记内部的领地。伯爵，count（欧洲大陆国家使用），earl（英国）。子爵，viscount。vis (‘vice’) + count，vis可能大家不熟悉，看到Vice President，应该就知道了。vice意为代替（‘instead of, deputy’），子爵是在伯爵之下的爵位，所以加上了vis。男爵，baron，玩LOL的同学肯定知道。 2. Duct 导管，管道（如图所示），领导、引领水、石油和气到目标地点的东西。 Ductile，延展性。容易被引领的东西（easy to be led）=> 延展性。 Duction，引领。 3. Abduce 使肢体外展。away + lead，领出去。该单词已基本不用（ obsolete）。 Abduct，非常容易弄混，而且算常见，意为拐走（把别人的肢体领走）。 Abductor，诱拐者。 Abduction，诱拐的名词。该单词不包括卖这个意思，根据词根，不难理解其原因。 Adduct，还有一个意思，与abduce类似，是肢体外延（如图）。 Circumduct，肢体环回（如图）。 4. 考研高频单词讲解-5

本文为该系列第五期，我之前也对常用的变化规律简单介绍了一下，所以大家应该对单词形变有了基本的概念。如果没有我再贴几个链接，方便大家加深理解。第一个回答： https://www.zhihu.com/question/27044578/answer/35030903 引用几段话：元音（区别于元音字母）间的变化可以忽略，不要造成记忆上的负担。比如fact, fect, fic都是fac(做)这个词根的同源异形根。也就是说元音在词根含义中意义不大。辅音向[d][t]过渡，而[t],[d]则向[s]过渡。词根首字母会同化词缀尾字母。我们下面要说的 success 里就是sub尾字母b受到了词根cess首字母的影响而变成suc。这样的例子在英文单词中数不胜数，第三点之前的单词出现过，但是我一笔带过了，不知道是否影响阅读。再补里面一张比较有价值的一张图片： https://i.imgur.com/nbFnLQU.jpg 第二个回答： https://www.zhihu.com/question/21817832/answer/767747947 墙裂建议看完以上两个回答，基础不好的可以加深印象，已经明白了的可以再多补充点知识。下面进入正文部分，本次只有五个单词，但是信息量相当大，把引用都看了还是比较累的，希望可以有耐心。看不太懂同学们没关系，多次学习，能看多少是多少^_^ 41.immigrant im’en’+ migrate’move’，看一下immigrate的英英释义： To move into a foreign country to stay permanently. 意思比较简单，就是migrate的词根好像比较难记，好在是单词本身应该已经能够记忆了，所以用单词记忆词根在这里比较合适。要注意区分的是emigrant的意思也是移民，只不过在这里是指向外移民（e表ex，向外）。举个栗子， an emigrant ship是一艘去往其他国家的移民船，而 an immigrant ship就是向本国来驶的船。这里用汉语无法区分，或者说很不方便，所以要格外地注意其中细微的区别。动词emigrate和immigrate同理。贴一个韦氏字典的解释，还提到了refugee这个单词，有兴趣的同学可以自行查看。再补充一个小知识，migrate本身就有迁移的意思，...

词缀讲解后缀篇之“ous”

在上一期已经简单介绍了 ‘ive’ 这个后缀，后续再考虑补充该后缀的其他性质。本期主要讲解后缀 ‘ous’，希望能帮助到大家~~ 先举几个以ous结尾的单词： mysterious curious felicitous (幸福的) homogeneous （考过。同质，相似的，数学中意为齐次，homogenous equations“齐次方程”）很多同学认为以 ‘ous’ 结尾的单词是形容词，所以ous是形容词后缀。但是知道ous是形容词后缀几乎对于我们背单词没有任何帮助，因为还有大把其他后缀（‘ic’, ‘ical’, ‘ish’）同样也是表形容词，所以仅仅知道是形容词这一点信息量太小，不仅对于记忆（memorize）单词没有帮助，反而加大背诵的负担。故如何区别不同后缀是提高的关键。重点来了，ous有以下几个用法：表数量多、富足（richly possessing）表性质（of the nature of）表相似（like）第一个性质表数量多估计很多同学没有意识到，主要讲一下这个含义，因为最常见，而且可以用来解释很多单词的意思。 Mysterious 先来个简单的，神秘的。Mystery + ous，很多神秘的事 => 神秘的。 Hilarious Hilarity“高兴，欢乐” + ous。很多欢乐 => 快乐的，通常指非常好笑，比happy更甚。Hilary（希拉里）作为人民也是此意。 Luciferous 难度稍大，意为带来光的，该单词由三部分组成 luc “光” + fer “带来” + ous “多”。 luc = lux 是光 “light ”的词根。其中 x = eks（讲过），e和u合并为u（元音变化无所谓），k = c（发音相同），s辅音省略。举个例子帮助同学们记忆lux：玩过英雄联盟的肯定知道里面有个女英雄叫拉克丝，那么她的英文名就叫做 Lux ，就是光的意思啦。她的所有技能（光芒四射、光明束縛……）都与光有关，应该有画面了吧？如果女同学没玩过英雄联盟的也有一个记忆的方法，去逛一下超市肯定能找到力士（lux，读音相似）洗发水，没见过的同学去京东买一瓶 ^_^。洗发水的目的当然是让头发更有光泽啦，所以取名力士lux。 fer作为词根意为带来（carry）...

英语中数字的词根

本期谈谈使用频率较高的数字，其中包含了一些有用的词根，记住之后可以举一反三地学习。 1. One One 这个单词不只是出现在英语中，通过元音变化可以变成其他语言中的“一”，比如：德语：ein（‘o’ 变 ‘ei’，去‘e’。）冰岛语：einn 瑞典语：en（‘o’ 变 ‘e’。）荷兰语：een 法语：un，une（u = o）西班牙、意大利语：uno，una（u = o, a = e），UNO 牌就是在最后一张牌需要喊出 “uno” 因此而得名。 Uni- 和 mono- 在英语中作为前缀，也表示“一”。 Unicycle，独轮车 Unicorn，独角兽 Unilateral，单边的 Unicellular，单细胞的 Monopoly（mono “一”，poly “卖”），一个人卖 \Rightarrow ⇒ 垄断。 Monotone（tone，音调），一个音调 \Rightarrow ⇒ 单调的（可表示函数单调性monotonicity）。 2. Two Twin，twain，twice 都是与 “two” 直接相关的单词。还有两个前缀可以表示“二”，bi- 和 di- Bi- Binary，二进制 Bliateral，双边的 Bicycle，二轮车 Bipedal，双足行走的，ped表示“足”，al 表形容词（p = f，t = d，发音类似故相等，参考格林定律） Bilingual，两种语言的，lingua 表舌头，language 也由 lingua 变化而来 Di- Dioxide，二氧化物 Diphthong，双元音 Duo，双人的 Double，双倍的 Deuce（deu = di，ce 表名词），平局，特指在 tennis 和 table tennis 等比赛中，出现需要连续赢两次的平手，比如网球的 40:40，乒乓球的10:10等。注：这里 w 算作半元音，所以也可以元音变化。参考这篇文章第一，我们称字母w和y为半元音字母，是因为这两个字母既可以用在音节的开头做辅音字母使用，又可以用在音节的末尾当元音使用。如，wet，water中的w在音节的开头元音字母前，它就是辅音字母，而few，now中的w在音节的末尾与其它元音字母构成字母组合发一个元音，few的发音是/ fju: ...

单词讲解第三节，let’go~ 21. federal 联邦的，最出名的就是FBI（Federal Bureau of Investigation，联邦调查局），顾名思义，美国是联邦制国家。但是美国在颁布《美利坚合众国宪法》（Constitution of the United States）前仍然属于邦联制（confederal）国家。 Federal和confederal的区别在于confederal通常是由多个国家组成，federal则是一个国家，比如欧盟可以称之为邦联。 Bureau如果记不住可以和politburo（politic + bureau，政治局）一起记忆。该政治机构由布尔什维克（bolshevik，俄语中意为多数派majority）首创。多提一句孟什维克（menshevik）是少数派，minority，前缀men和min实际上是同源的，可以相互加深记忆。同理bol就是多large的词根（不用记忆） 22. average 平均，做形容词、名词、动词均可。补充几个数学名词 Mean：平均数（adj.还有下流的意思），出现频率较高 Mode：众数。低频 Median：中位数。低频 23. avoid void，空，来自于vuide(古法语），学过c、c++编程的同学肯定知道void的意思啦。 evuider（e + vuider，向外变空）是法语的清空和避免，然后字母经过变形（元音变化）到了英语就成了avoid。西班牙语：evitar，避免。这几个单词虽然长得不一样，但是仔细分析实际上都是同源词根，某些元音和辅音稍作变化就成了另一个语言的单词。有能力的同学多记忆点别的语言的的单词还能加深印象。 24. casino 赌场，最著名的莫过于Las vegas了，来自于词根 casa’house’。 cottage就是由casa变化而来（s变成t，加age名词后缀）。 25. dam 大坝，鹿特丹（Rotterdam）和阿姆斯特丹（Amsterdam）中的dam取自该意。这两所城市都是属于Netherlands（荷兰，尼德兰），nether就是低，low的词根（同源词beneath，be nether。注意与neither区分开），所以荷兰又被称之为低地国家，海拔很低，所以需要大量建造da...
