考研高频单词讲解-2

书接上回。上次讲了十个单词，其中包含了许多非常重要的词根，越往下讲词根的重复率会越大，所以词根方面的内容会变少，我尽量在其他的地方多补充点内容。

11.label

动词和名词的意思都有，动词就是标签化，比如label him a
loser。此处的label用作贬义，也可以和中文一样当成中性词使用。
例句：
labeled the switches so as not to confuse them
这里的label可以替换为categorize或者tag。

12.detail

De ‘off’ + tail ‘cut’ 意为切下来的东西 => 细节。
Tailor（裁缝）也是tail的衍生词，字面意思（literally）为’cutter’。
tailor还有作为动词的意思，也很常见，意为量身定做（裁缝干的事）。
比如
This patch is tailored for Windows users.
这个补丁是为Windows用户定制的。
tailor换成cuntomize亦可。

13.event

e’out，ex的变体（variant）’+ vent ’ come’ 出来的东西，通常指大事件。比如竞技体育的大型比赛就是一次event（Ti，s10，major…）
这里的vent也是一个重要词根，作为来的意思非常多见，convene，convention，adventure，circumvent’绕过’（circum是圆的词根，circumcise（cise = cide，切）可以帮助大家很好的记忆这个词根，意思请大家自行查阅，warning: NSFW⚠）
这里再分享一句个人很喜欢的亚历山大的名言
我来，我见，我征服。
I came, I saw, I conquered.
Veni, vidi, vici.(拉丁语)
这里的veni就是来，其他意思也是一一对应的。
Vidi就是看，衍生词visual，s，t，d互相变是正常操作，大家看过了就认识了。t和d是清浊辅音，s变t是因为发音相似，比如visual 和 virtual 的s和t的读音相似。
Vici是胜利，中国有个电竞俱乐部Vici gaming（VG）就取自该意。
还有IG战队（Invictus Gaming）也是如此，In表否定，后面也是拉丁语（vic做词根，tus形容词后缀），可以理解为invicible，unconquerable，即不可战胜之队。
Navi(natus vincere)，vincere与vici是同根词，natus和natal（出生的）同根，加起来意思就是natal winner，天生赢家。
可见很多战队起名都习惯拿vici当作来源，这里讲了好多电竞相关的知识，女同学可能觉得无聊了，没关系，学会了可以讲给男朋友听:)
顺便说一句，大多数战队取名都是用的拉丁语或者非本国语言，至于原因，我想大概和"装逼"分不开haha，毕竟取人名都希望有诗意一点，战队名也是一样，一眼让人看懂了岂不是很没面子？(￣▽￣)

14.inflate

in + flare（latin） ‘blow’( t->r 辅音变化)，向里吹=>膨胀，经济学中为【通货膨胀】。注意与英语单词flare区分开，词根都是Latin，希腊等其他语族，而不是英语单词。
Deflation：通货紧缩
Stagflation：停滞性通货膨胀。Stag （stagnate）+ flat 的组合词。

15.verb

verb这个词大家见得很多了，但是这个词记忆却相当有技巧。
1.构词法里 w = v
（某些情况下，不绝对），因为发音类似，所以可以互相替换造出新词。
2.元音等同 a = e = i = o = u
3.词尾辅音变化，此变化通常是为了长得更像英语单词，或者发音更方便。
综合以上三点，v=w, e=o,
b=>d，就变成了新词word，而拉丁语中verb的词根就是word的意思，所以verbal是词语的意思。
至于为什么verb为什么有动词的意思，我想应该是说话中动词占主要成分，承上启下。

16.weather

这个单词应该都认识，说一个比较常见的动词用法
Weather the strom。渡过险境，作文里可以用一用。
Weather the quarantine（隔离）

17.dioxide，二氧化物

Di ‘duo’+ ox ‘氧气’+ ide 'acid’的合成词。
Duo上次已经讲过了，表示双。
ox来自于同一个词根 ‘ak-’（原始印欧语，意为酸，acid），原因如下：
x的音标为/eks/, 其实就可以把他当成三个字母组成的（e，k，s）。
那么ox = oeks = aks (元音替换后合并为a) = ak（辅音脱落）
Ide作为acid的后缀保留了下来，至于氧气为什么与acid联系在一起，与早期的讹传有关，当时认为氧气可以生成酸。参考

18.Europe

欧罗巴洲，简称欧洲，起源于希腊神话故事。欧罗巴（Europa）被伪装成公牛的宙斯，后被带到了克里特岛诱奸，在哪里她生了几个孩子，于是欧洲大陆便以她的名字命名。

19.evident

e ‘向外’+ vid ‘see’ = 向外看到的 => 明显的。
Evidence就是证据（很明显的东西）。
vid上文已经介绍过。
补充两个小拉丁短语：
1.Vide infra， (infra ‘下，below’ + structure，底层建筑)
，所以翻译成英语为：See below
2.Vide supra， (super ‘上，over,above’+
man，超过一般人，超人)，英语：see above。

20.legal

令人意外的是，legal与law并不同源（参见ref1,ref2），，不过把他们联系到一起记忆确实挺方便的。W变换成为g，再加个al作为形容词。
反义词为illegal。同义词为legitimate和lawful，有细微区别，都理解为合法的问题不大。同时legal还可以表示法律相关的。
后记：这一篇讲了不少词根以及相关的拉丁短语，第一次接触的同学可能看不太习惯，多查阅资料，善用搜索引擎可以帮助我们掌握更多的知识。有同学整理这些词根做笔记我当然欢迎，不过不记笔记也问题不大，勤查字典也许是很好的记忆方法。
**同时，不要想着背住词根来记忆相关单词，因为有的词根不好记忆，所以我推荐词根记不住就多记几个同根单词，用多个单词记忆同一个词根，词根记住了，或者看着眼熟了，再反过来记忆单词，相辅相成效果更佳，祝各位学习愉快~~

考研高频单词讲解-1

本期写一篇考研高频单词的讲解，主要是从词根词缀出发写一点个人背单词的技巧和心得，或者是一些小的辨析之类的。词频的来源是这里。授人鱼不如授人以渔，先推荐两个个我常用的词根查询网站（全英+科学上网）： Etymonline Wiktionary 前期直接看可能难度较大，可以参考 http://www.dicts.cn/ 这个网站，逐渐熟悉后再慢慢适应英文版。话不多说，直接开始吧~~ 1. industrial industry的形容词，注意industry有勤奋的意思，而industrial没有【勤奋的】的意思，只有【工业的】的意思。Industry由 indu + stry组成，indu 由indo结尾变化而来（元音变化很常见，可以理解为a = e = i = o =u），意为 in或者within ， stry = stru = structure。综合起来就是在里面建造=》工业。 2. involve in（≈indo）+volve（旋转，拟声词，模仿旋转的声音） = 卷入，涉及。Volvo沃尔沃也是源自同一个词根，元音变化又用上啦，e 变成了 o。volve这个词根的同源词也很多，需要单开一节讲解。 3. moral 这个单词从词源比较难记，因为无法得出有效的记忆规律。所以多个同源单词一起记忆比较方便。 Demoralize 这个单词翻译考过，de = off 去掉，morale（士气），懂点词根很容易就能知道他的意思啦。比如LOL中被Ace（团灭）了就非常地demoralizing哈哈。如果每人拿到一个人头就叫做team ace，虽然通常都是adc（attack damage carry）, ap(ability power carry)拿人头。说到ace这个单词也很有趣，ace是扑克（poker）中最大的。有一种说法是，1789年法国大革命之后，平民获得了更多权力，于是最底层ace就变成最大的啦。如果各位有兴趣还可以学习扑克中的历史+英语， Jack , Queen , King 对应了不同的人物，其中黑桃q（queen of spades，spade是铲子）原型是雅典娜（Athena），还有很多有意思的人物，这里就不展开啦，有兴趣可以自己查阅以上超链接。 Morale 加e变名词，有道德的状态（concerning mor...

56. helicopter 地上有个大H的就是停直升机的地方。 57. abandon ab + ban，去禁掉 \Rightarrow ⇒ 放弃。 58. province 省份。Pro + vince，其中 Vince 在这篇博文提到过，Pro “向前” + vince “conquer”，向前征服的地方 \Rightarrow ⇒ 地区（territory，region），省份。 59. reject Re ‘back’ + ject ‘throw’，向后扔 \Rightarrow ⇒ 拒绝。 60. select se ‘apart’ + lec ‘collect, gather’，分开来从中选择 \Rightarrow ⇒ 挑选，选择。注意 elect 和 select 的区别： e 在这里表示向外，向外选 \Rightarrow ⇒ 选举。 61. actual act 意为一个做过的事情（a thing done），al 表形容词，所以 actual 表示实际的，现实的。 62. capital cap 做词根表示头（head），所以 cap 在英文中是帽子。Capital 表首都（首 = 头），首字母（也和头有关）。因此 Capitalize 也表示首字母化。 63. species 一种（a kind or sort），物种（生物学）。spec表示看（look），所以这个单词可以理解为看一眼，也就是一种。所以在生物学领域的一种就是物种，在物理和逻辑学中都有这个术语，这里不做解释了。 64. specific 该单词也和 spec 有关，在尾部加上了 fic（做，make），为了某一个种做的 \Rightarrow ⇒ 特定的。要注意与 special 的区别，special 仅仅表示它代表了某一方面、种，而不是为了某一方面而制作（make）的，所以 special 是特别的，不是特定的。 Fic 意思是做，形成（form，make）也很常见，比如 figure 和 fiction 都与做有关。Figure 意思比较多，其中大多也和做有关，比如形状，图表，身材。Fiction ...

词缀讲解后缀篇之 “ive”

本期是补充一下这篇文章，做一个关于后缀 “ive” 的更完整的介绍。首先介绍一下 ive 做后缀的意思，主要有两个： having the nature(性质) of a thing tending to the action indicated 与 ous 不同的是，ive 如果做为suffix，那么它的词干（stem，就是 ive 前面的单词，与 root 为近义词，起到表意作用），只能是动词！动词！动词！（而 ous 只能是名词）。这种用法比较正式的说法为： implied by a v or by a v 下面分析以上两个意思，第一个比较简单，某物拥有某个性质（nature），例如 addictive，有使人让人成瘾（addict）的性质 \Rightarrow ⇒ 成瘾性。同理 creative \Rightarrow ⇒ 创造性。第二个 indicated 是个被动用法， \text{the action indicated} the action indicated 这个短语意思是被表明的的动作，tending to就是趋向于这个动作。其中被 indicated 的东西就是词干，tending to 这个部分由 ive 表达。举个例子：Simon is active（act + ive），这里 act 就是 indicated 的东西，ive表示 Simon 有 act 的倾向 \Rightarrow ⇒ Simon 是有活动（act）倾向（ive）的 \Rightarrow ⇒ Simon很活跃。正因为 ive 能表性质，所以大多用于正式的语境，所以在大量专业术语中能看到它，比如数学，计算机，英语… 下面介绍一些相关单词，可能有部分专业性词汇，不感兴趣的跳过即可。 Conclusive：Conclude 由 Con + close 组成，共同关闭 \Rightarrow ⇒ 总结。总结 + ive \Rightarrow ⇒ 总结性的。 Transitive，过渡性的。在语法中翻译为及物动词（transitive verb）...

与古典神话相关的词源

本期写一点关于古希腊罗马神话（Classical mythology）相关的词源故事，希望可以帮助大家更好地记住与之有关的单词。 1. Echo Echo 我们都知道是回声的意思。在希腊神话中，有个山岳仙女（Mountain nymph）也叫 Echo，她经常用美丽的声音，迷人的故事故意缠住好妒的赫拉（Hera，宙斯之妻），转移她的注意力，以便于宙斯（Zeus）可以趁机与其他仙女幽会。不料东窗事发，愤怒的赫拉让 Echo 失去了声音，作为惩罚。此后 Echo 只能重复别人所发出的声音，于是 Echo 一词进入英语之后就有了“回声”的意思。后来 Echo 遇到了 Narcissus（那耳喀索斯，又译作纳西瑟斯），他们俩一见钟情，可是因为 Echo 无法表达自己的爱意，她郁郁而终，最后只剩下声音回荡在山谷之中。 2. Narcissism Echo 喜欢的 Narcissus 正是 narcissism（自恋）的来源，他是个帅气到爱上自己的男子。传说他出生后，他的母亲向预言家提瑞西阿斯（Tiresias）询问自己儿子的命运。Tiresias说，Narcissus 只要不看到自己的脸，就能得长寿。因此，尽管 Narcissus 长大后成为全希腊最俊美的男子，他却从不知道自己长什么样子。 Narcissus 的美貌让全希腊的女性为之倾倒，但他对所有前来求爱的女人都无动于衷。被他拒绝的女子们都要求复仇女神 Nemesis（涅墨西斯）惩罚那耳喀索斯。Nemesis 同意了她们的请求。一次打猎归来时，他在池水中看见了自己俊美的脸，于是爱上了自己的倒影，无法从池塘边离开，终于憔悴而死。这样就实现了 Tiresias 在他幼年时所作出的预言。之后 Narcissus 也就成了自恋的代名词。 3. 词根“duct”相关单词讲解

本期讲解词根 duct ，Duct在这篇博文中提到过，意为领导、引导（‘to lead’)，duct的原始词根为deuk（结尾辅音变化，不影响单词意思），本文的以下单词皆与该意思有关，不需要全部记忆，根据个人精力进行学习。 1. Duke 公爵。duke由deuk演化而来，两个词长得差不多，读音也差不多。公爵是领导一个地区的人，一个领导者。 Duchess，公爵夫人。 Duchy，duke的东西 => 公国。 Archduke，arch（大）+ duke，奥地利大公，位置比公爵高，低于国王。 Grand duke，也是大公，欧洲大陆国家常见，如：卢森堡大公，托斯卡纳大公。 Ducat，达克特，一种货币。字面意为：公爵的货币。 Ducal，duc + al，公爵的再补充一下欧洲贵族的英语，爵位按排序递减：侯爵，Marquis。Marq = mark，标记。标记在这里象征着领地的边界被mark了，侯爵负责管理标记内部的领地。伯爵，count（欧洲大陆国家使用），earl（英国）。子爵，viscount。vis (‘vice’) + count，vis可能大家不熟悉，看到Vice President，应该就知道了。vice意为代替（‘instead of, deputy’），子爵是在伯爵之下的爵位，所以加上了vis。男爵，baron，玩LOL的同学肯定知道。 2. Duct 导管，管道（如图所示），领导、引领水、石油和气到目标地点的东西。 Ductile，延展性。容易被引领的东西（easy to be led）=> 延展性。 Duction，引领。 3. Abduce 使肢体外展。away + lead，领出去。该单词已基本不用（ obsolete）。 Abduct，非常容易弄混，而且算常见，意为拐走（把别人的肢体领走）。 Abductor，诱拐者。 Abduction，诱拐的名词。该单词不包括卖这个意思，根据词根，不难理解其原因。 Adduct，还有一个意思，与abduce类似，是肢体外延（如图）。 Circumduct，肢体环回（如图）。 4.
