ab + ban，去禁掉 $\Rightarrow$ 放弃。

省份。Pro + vince，其中 Vince 在这篇博文提到过，Pro “向前” + vince “conquer”，向前征服的地方 $\Rightarrow$ 地区（territory，region），省份。

59. reject

Re ‘back’ + ject ‘throw’，向后扔 $\Rightarrow$ 拒绝。

60. select

se ‘apart’ + lec ‘collect, gather’，分开来从中选择 $\Rightarrow$ 挑选，选择。

注意 elect 和 select 的区别：e 在这里表示向外，向外选 $\Rightarrow$ 选举。

61. actual

act 意为一个做过的事情（a thing done），al 表形容词，所以 actual 表示实际的，现实的。

62. capital

cap 做词根表示头（head），所以 cap 在英文中是帽子。Capital 表首都（首 = 头），首字母（也和头有关）。因此 Capitalize 也表示首字母化。

63. species

一种（a kind or sort），物种（生物学）。spec表示看（look），所以这个单词可以理解为看一眼，也就是一种。所以在生物学领域的一种就是物种，在物理和逻辑学中都有这个术语，这里不做解释了。

64. specific

该单词也和 spec 有关，在尾部加上了 fic（做，make），为了某一个种做的 $\Rightarrow$ 特定的。要注意与 special 的区别，special 仅仅表示它代表了某一方面、种，而不是为了某一方面而制作（make）的，所以 special 是特别的，不是特定的。

Fic 意思是做，形成（form，make）也很常见，比如 figure 和 fiction 都与做有关。Figure 意思比较多，其中大多也和做有关，比如形状，图表，身材。Fiction 是做出来的东西 $\Rightarrow$ （虚构）小说。

65. agency

ag，ac（c = g，发音相同）意思是做、行动（doing），注意和上面的 make 不一是一个做。Agency 就是行动的名词，所以它本身就有行动的意思，比如：

action or intervention, especially such as to produce a particular effect.

所以帮忙做的就是机构（agency），机构的做的人就是代理人（agent）。

在哲学中，agency表示能动性，简单来说就是对外界主动做，这我们就很熟悉了。

66. commercial

com + merce，其中 merce 源自于罗马神话的旅行者之神——墨丘利（Mercurius）。

墨丘利是边界及穿越边界的旅行者之神，亦掌管牧羊人与牧牛人，辩论与灵舌，诗与文字，体育，重量与度量，发明与商业，他也是狡猾的小偷和骗子之神。

重视交换、贸易，故 merce 表贸易，那么共同的贸易 $\Rightarrow$ 商业。他速度很快，所以水星（mercury）也是源自他。

墨丘利对应了希腊神话的赫耳墨斯（Hermes），爱马仕（Hermès）箱包把意思也寄托在旅行之神身上。

67. corporation

与 Corpus 同源，表示身体、尸体。Corporate 需要有法人，就像人的身体一样，每一个组成部分都需要有。所以Corporation 比 company 规模大。

68 . credit

Credit 最初表信任（trust）。

它的意思比较多，一一解释一下

学分：学校对你的信任度。
余额：你对该公司（或银行）的信任度，与 balance（余额）意思差不多。
赞美：给与某人信任说明对他是赞赏的。

Credit card，银行对你的信任度。Debit card（借记卡），借给银行的钱。

Credible：可信任的。
Incredible：难以置信。

69. critical

Cri 在这里表分离（separate），分离好与坏，所以 cri 还有决定（decide）的意思，critical 就是决定性的。所以在这种意思下，临界区、临界点、临界质量都用的是 critical 做修饰词，它能决定一件事的成功与否。

Cri 是拟声词，表分离是因为模拟物体裂开的声音。

70. express

作动词，press 表示压，向外压（想法）就是表达。press 同样也表示媒体，因为早期报纸就是压制纸张制成的。

作名词，向外压（货物），特快列车、快递。

作形容词，向外表达出来的，所以express 意为明确的。例句：

The schools were founded for the express purpose of teaching deaf children.

词缀讲解后缀篇之 “ive”

本期是补充一下这篇文章，做一个关于后缀 “ive” 的更完整的介绍。首先介绍一下 ive 做后缀的意思，主要有两个： having the nature(性质) of a thing tending to the action indicated 与 ous 不同的是，ive 如果做为suffix，那么它的词干（stem，就是 ive 前面的单词，与 root 为近义词，起到表意作用），只能是动词！动词！动词！（而 ous 只能是名词）。这种用法比较正式的说法为： implied by a v or by a v 下面分析以上两个意思，第一个比较简单，某物拥有某个性质（nature），例如 addictive，有使人让人成瘾（addict）的性质 \Rightarrow ⇒ 成瘾性。同理 creative \Rightarrow ⇒ 创造性。第二个 indicated 是个被动用法， \text{the action indicated} the action indicated 这个短语意思是被表明的的动作，tending to就是趋向于这个动作。其中被 indicated 的东西就是词干，tending to 这个部分由 ive 表达。举个例子：Simon is active（act + ive），这里 act 就是 indicated 的东西，ive表示 Simon 有 act 的倾向 \Rightarrow ⇒ Simon 是有活动（act）倾向（ive）的 \Rightarrow ⇒ Simon很活跃。正因为 ive 能表性质，所以大多用于正式的语境，所以在大量专业术语中能看到它，比如数学，计算机，英语… 下面介绍一些相关单词，可能有部分专业性词汇，不感兴趣的跳过即可。 Conclusive：Conclude 由 Con + close 组成，共同关闭 \Rightarrow ⇒ 总结。总结 + ive \Rightarrow ⇒ 总结性的。 Transitive，过渡性的。在语法中翻译为及物动词（transitive verb）...

词根“volv”相关单词讲解

本期是具体解析词根的第一篇，先从volv讲起，因为这是我在文章中第一个提到的词根。希望大家能记住能够，然后更方便地背单词。本期主要讲解volv相关单词，volv(Latin)作为词根是拟声词，模仿旋转的声音，是从原始印欧语’ wel ’演化而来，不需要掌握wel，有个印象就行。 volv的作为词根以为“roll，turn around”，和旋转分不开，所以他的衍生词也都与旋转有关。注意vert（divert，convert）这个词根表示’turn’（转一次），而不是’turn around’（旋转）。本期大多单词为冷门低频词，虽说冷门，但是有很多是专业术语，相关专业同学应该比较了解。不过对于大多数人来说能有个印象就行，能记忆多少是多少，当作是词根记忆联想即可。 1. Voluble 健谈的，同义词：talkative, loquacious。由volv + able组成，字面义为能转的，可能是指说话人转动的舌头，或者是说话人滔滔不绝的状态。名词：Volubility。 2. Volume 意为“卷”，一开始是指书籍，第一卷，第二卷等。因为在书籍（有封面，页）出现之前，东西方人都用卷轴（scroll）写书或者作画（如图）。在书籍出现之后，之前volume的意思也保留了下来，虽然此时“卷”的意思已经不再明显。后来，volume的意思得到了拓展，还能指卷成的物体的体积，大小。再衍生出“音量”的意思，即为声音的大小。 voluminous，volume + ous（体积肥大的，卷帙浩繁的），都是讲过的意思，应该不难理解。 3. Volutation 意思和roll一样，由volutate（Latin） + ion合成。旋转的名词，比较冷门的一个词，不需要记忆。 4. Volute 意为，漩涡状的（adj.），涡形（n.）。注意并非是 Vol + ate组成的动词，而是由voluta（Latin）直接演变而来。 Volution：涡旋（n.），旋转。同样都是冷门词，应用场景较少。 5. Valve 阀门，不是value ！该词也和转有关，v社就是这个单词，搭配steam，很有感觉。 Valvo（沃尔沃）比喻轮子的转动。 6. Vault 保险柜，也和转有关（如图）。 7. Advolution 向某物发展，ad ‘toward’ + volv。向某个方向滚。 8....

词缀讲解之后缀篇-1

之前讲了很多词根、前缀，但是还没讲过后缀，因为后缀的难度比较大，而且在使用率上要高于前缀，所以本期换一换口味（超链接不多，主要动脑子），讲讲后缀吧~ 首先明确一个概念：词缀（affix）。af + fix，fix为固定、stick、attach，af（ad变化而来）表加强，所以词缀为固定上去的东西。而词缀的固定对象就是词根（root），所以通过词缀+词根的组合就能形成新单词。词缀包括了前缀（prefix， pre，在前面）和后缀（suffix，sub => suf，在下面）。前缀通常用来和词干（stem，理解为词根即可）组合改变单词的意思，比如un + happy，dis + like。因为中文是我们的母语，所以很多人甚至没意识到我们生活中也大量使用词缀，小兄弟、小姐、小姨等，这里"小"就是一个前缀。反物质、反人类，这里的反和英语中的"anti" 和 "counter"一致，不会有人不知道 Counter-Strike 吧？后缀如我们、你们、男孩们，“们"表多数，与英语中加复数的s对应。还有表性质的后缀，攻击性，爆炸性，侵略性，“性” 对应英语中的 “ive” （划重点），Aggressive, Explosive，ive表性质，这一点一定要记住，本期不打算讲这个词根，虽然它足够重要，也是重点+难点，下下次再说（我柚偷懒了）。预告一下，下次讲的是"ous”，为什么讲这个呢？因为它是重点+非难点，而且经常与其他词缀弄混，大家可以自行预习，看看能掌握到何种程度。再划重点，说一下为什么英语中很多形容词能表名词？比如上述的explosive还可以表示爆炸物（近义词：bomb，C4，device）。相信很多同学在记忆该类型单词比较伤脑筋，如果不掌握记忆方法，那么记忆量就要double，非常不划算。首先明确一点，语言是相通的，所以英语中如果遇到了不明白的知识点可以在中文里寻找相似之处（中文包括不限于普通话（mandarin）），大家最好可以在自己会的方言（Dialect）里找类似的。举个例子，f、h的变化，典型的是湖建人、福南人；东北话里l = r，蓝后（然后）；l = n，蓝鲸（南京）人。此类变化非常之多，大家可以自行发掘，至于为什么出现这种变化，个人的想法是在不影响理解的情况下，...
